Thank you for Just Desserts
We would like to thank everyone who attended our Friend-Raiser yesterday evening at Cherry Point Farm and Market (www.facebook.com/cherrypointmarket/). We enjoyed hearing some excellent speakers, including Barb Byrum, who is running for Michigan Secretary of State, Jamie Hill, who is running for Congress, Bryan Berghoef, an excellent speaker who gave us tips on how to be strong both personally and politically, and some folks who are running for other various positions at the state and federal levels (or folks who spoke on behalf of those who are running). We had a wonderful turnout, and several happy auction bidders walked away with beautiful gift baskets, artwork, and quilts. And how can you not love cherry pie topped with ice cream?!?
We appreciate the kudos we received from our member, Margo, who sent us this email this morning: “Thank you for a top-notch event! Flowers were stupendous, great speakers!“ And we appreciate everyone who attended last night's event. If you didn't make it to this year's biannual Friend-Raiser, we hope to see you at the next one in 2027.
Workers/Laborers Over Billionaires Rally
On Labor Day, around 100 folks gathered at the Pentwater Village Green Park in Pentwater, Michigan for a nationwide rally titled “Workers/Laborers Over Billionaires.” The Oceana Country Democrats (OCD) supported this campaign’s efforts which included honoring workers, laborers and unions, protesting against the current administration and reminding the country that workers and laborers are really the wealth generators. Pentwater has a population of around 900 people. At least 24 people spoke at the microphone to tell their personal stories of how the administration’s actions are affecting them, and to remind us that we are strong and that the people have the power.
Lynne Cavazos, a member of the OCD and Indivisible, read a quote by Becky Pringle, National Education Association President, at the rally on Monday, “Organized people will always win over organized money. But we have to organize. We have to be intentional. And we have to understand our power.”
The OCD wishes to thank everyone who attended on a holiday, to show support for workers, laborers and unions. And to resist the preferred treatment billionaires have been receiving from the administration.
Pizza for the People was a hit, again!
Close to 100 adults, plus kids enjoyed beautiful weather, great music and fantastic Laughing Tree Bakery Wood-Fired pizza pies, salads, tea and lemonade. Video courtesy of Mariann Kwiat: Director, Writer, Camera, Editor.
We had a fabulous turnout yesterday in in front of the Ocean County Courthouse, for Good Trouble Lives On, the national day of nonviolent action that celebrates the life and social justice efforts of Congressman John Lewis, and emphasizes the need for resistance to the current administration's unjust, harmful social and political practices. Several folks spoke about their concern and fear, including a lifelong Republican who expressed that it terrifies him that the administration is swiftly destroying the rights of "we the people." This includes the right to protest, as well as the right to due process and bonds for immigrants. The weather was perfect, faces were smiling and one talented gentleman even sang us a beautiful song he wrote about the state of humanity.
